NEWS - July 2011: IASC 2009/2010 Markey Survey Supplier Participation Requested |

IASC 2009/2010 Market Survey Supplier Participation Requested July 15, 2011 -The IASC has initiated a market survey to include data on aloe vera raw materials from 2009 & 2010 and is requesting all suppliers of the ingredient to complete and return the requested information by August 15, 2011. This information is being requested of both IASC member and non-member companies in order to allow for IASC to better characterize the aloe vera ingredients in the US-based aloe vera market. Though the IASC is confident that the three primary ingredients in marketplace products are known (purified or filtered aloe vera leaf juice, un-purified or unfiltered aloe vera inner leaf juice, and purified or filtered inner leaf juice), the industry needs to be able to provide data to support that assumption. "This information will enable the organization to answer questions from regulators such as FDA as to the primary types of aloe vera ingredients that can be found in products available in the marketplace", said Devon Powell, IASC Executive Director. "At our meeting with the FDA in May, we were informed that additional studies would be conducted as a follow up to the NTP's 2-year study on non-decolorized aloe vera and that the industry needs to be able to identify what is on the market and be prepared to r conduct studies on those ingredients to clearly demonstrate safety. The start of that process is understanding and demonstrating what ingredients are that are in the products in the marketplace - so this information is absolutely essential". All submissions will be kept confidential and any proprietary/corporate information will be redacted from any reports to be made available. Only initial sales of raw material should be reported; any downstream suppliers/resellers are asked to not report any such transactions. Again, at this time the market survey is only looking to capture data relevant to the sales of aloe vera ingredients to those putting the ingredient into products marketed into the US.
