Researchers Investigating New Method To Identify Aloe

Almost two years ago, the Board of Directors and Science & Technology Committee Chairman introduced a study to begin looking into the NMR method of identifying aloe.

The NMR process will replace the method used for the past several years. The consensus of opinion is that the NMR process offers a much improved method of certification parameters.

Dr. Steve Orndorff, the Science & Technology Committee Chairman, has made presentations to the board at each six-month meeting and at our 1997 and 1998 Annual Scientific Seminars.

The IASC membership was made aware of the progress at the last scientific seminar, and the recent vote by the board at a special meeting confirmed the CouncilŐs position to accept this new method for certification of aloe.

The approved procedure and its protocol will become effective immediately. Refinements and additions to the research will be presented by the Science & Technology Committee.

The Council thanks Dr. Orndorff, Dr Bernd Diehl, Ernst Teichmueller and the many others for all the time and money spent on this study.

For a copy of the complete protocol, please contact the IASC office by mail, fax or e-mail. Your comments and questions are also welcome.
