The Federal Trade Commission has published advertising guidelines specifically for the dietary supplement industry. The FTC says the guide is a "restatement of longstanding FTC policies and is not intended to signal any change in the agency's approach to dietary supplement advertising." The booklet entitled "A Guide for the Dietary Supplement Industry" provides dietary supplement advertisers with the basic principles of the law governing advertising and cites specific examples showing how the law is applied. Copies of the business guide are available from the FTC's web site at www.ftc.gov and also from the FTC's Consumer Response Center, Room 130, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580; (202) FTC-HELP. For further information on this new guide, you can also contact the IASC office. This information appeared in the December 1998 issue of NNFA Today, and is reprinted with permission of the NNFA. |
